Hey, lovely! Let’s talk weekends. You know, those glorious two days that are supposed to be a time for rest and rejuvenation. But if you’re anything like me, they can also easily turn into an over-packed mess of household chores, errands, and just catching up on the stuff you didn’t get to during the week.
What if we could make our weekends work for us instead of running us ragged? What if we used them to fill us up—spiritually, emotionally, and even creatively—so we could be our best selves for God, our families, and our work?
In this blog, we’re going to explore 10 weekend habits of highly successful Christian women. These habits will help you make the most of your weekends, nurture your faith, and, yes, set you up for more success in the week to come.
1. They Start Their Weekend with Restful Intentions
Here’s a secret: successful Christian women are super intentional about their weekends. They don’t let the weekend “just happen” to them. They choose rest on purpose. They plan their weekends with balance in mind—leaving space for rest, fun, and connection with God.
When I started planning my weekends more intentionally, I noticed an immediate impact in my work week. Instead of crashing into my weekends exhausted, I would sit down with my planner on Friday evening and jot down what restful activities I wanted to include. A nap? Done. A movie night with my kids? Absolutely. Time for extended prayer and journaling? Yes, please.
How to try it: Spend ten minutes every Friday evening planning how you want to nurture your soul, body, and relationships this weekend. Write it down and stick to it!
2. They Prioritize Connection with God
The most successful Christian women I know make time for Jesus a priority. Weekends are a golden opportunity to spend more time in His Word, pray deeply, and listen to what He has to say. There’s just something about an unhurried Saturday morning with coffee and Scripture, right?
One of my favorite activities is to make Saturday mornings my “Holy Coffee Morning.” I can grab my Bible, make a big cup of coffee, and sit —just me and Jesus. No agenda, no rush. Those mornings are a sacred rhythm for me that fills me up like nothing else.
How to try it: Carve out an hour during the weekend to spend with God—whether it’s through reading, worship, or even just sitting quietly in His presence. Let it be a time of genuine connection.
3. They Schedule Joy
Weekends aren’t just about catching up on chores—they’re also for finding joy. Highly successful women understand that joy is fuel for the soul. God wants us to experience joy, and weekends are a great time to lean into that!
Whether it’s a hobby you love, an outing with friends, or just dancing around the living room with your kids, scheduling joy can make a massive difference. I remember one weekend I decided to revisit a hobby I had neglected—sewing. I set up a little space in my living room, played my favorite worship music, and just sewed. It wasn’t perfect, but the joy it brought me was palpable.
How to try it: Think about what activities bring you joy. Set aside some time for them—even if it’s just 30 minutes—and watch how it impacts your mood and energy.
4. They Unplug to Recharge
We live in a world that never stops, and if we’re not careful, we can find ourselves glued to our phones even on the weekends. Successful Christian women know the importance of rest—including mental rest. Unplugging for a few hours can do wonders for your spirit.
I’ll be honest, I’m notorious for this one. Some days, I completely walk away from my phone for hours. I spend that time reading, talking with my family, and even napping—and it is glorious. It feels like my mind has space to breathe, and I am able to be fully present when I unplug.
How to try it: Pick a few hours (or a whole day, if you’re feeling brave!) to unplug from your devices. Spend that time doing something that recharges your spirit—whether that’s taking a walk, reading a book, or having real, uninterrupted conversations.
5. They Spend Time in Nature
I’ll admit, I’m not always one to immediately jump outdoors. But, getting outside is a powerful way to feel God’s presence and enjoy His creation. There’s something so grounding about spending time in nature, whether it’s gardening, or taking a walk, or even just sitting outside on your porch or balcony.
My favorite weekend ritual is what I like to call my “Nature Time with Jesus.” I work in my garden, no headphones, no distractions, just me and my thoughts. I pray as I work and enjoy God’s creation. It’s amazing how much clarity God brings during those times.
How to try it: Make it a point to spend time in nature during the weekend. Go for a walk, visit a botanical garden, or simply sit outside and take in the beauty of God’s creation.
6. They Connect with Loved Ones
Successful Christian women understand that weekends are for connection—not just with God but also with loved ones. It’s a time to nurture relationships, be present, and show love.
I remember one weekend when my daughter asked if we could go out for breakfast. I was tempted to say no because of the long to-do list waiting for me. But I said yes, and we spent the entire morning, laughing, and talking. It’s one of my favorite memories because I realized that this is what life is really about—connection.
How to try it: Schedule time to be present with your family or friends. It could be cooking a meal together, having a game night, or just sitting down for a heart-to-heart conversation. Whatever it is, make sure you’re truly present.
7. They Prepare for the Week Ahead
While weekends are for rest, they’re also a great time to prepare for the upcoming week. Highly successful women spend a little time organizing and planning ahead so they can start Monday with a sense of calm and confidence.
Every Sunday evening, I sit down with my planner and make a list of my top goals for the week. I pray over my schedule, asking God to guide my priorities. I also do a quick declutter of any messy areas in my home. This helps me feel organized and ready to tackle whatever comes my way.
How to try it: Spend 20-30 minutes on Sunday evening planning your upcoming week. Write down your top three priorities, pray over your schedule, and do light decluttering, meal planning, or tasks that will make your week easier.
8. They Practice Gratitude
Gratitude is a powerful practice, and successful women know that it can transform their mindset. Taking time to thank God for the blessings of the week—big or small—can help you cultivate joy and contentment.
I have a gratitude section in my planner pages and every Sunday evening, I make a list of things I’m grateful for from the past week. Sometimes they’re big things, like an answered prayer, and other times they’re small, like a sweet moment with my kids. This simple practice helps me shift my focus from what didn’t get done to all that God has provided.
How to try it: Set aside time on Sunday to reflect on the week and write down five things you’re grateful for. Keep it simple, and let it be a reminder of God’s goodness.
9. They Honor the Sabbath
God gave us the Sabbath as a gift—a time to rest and delight in Him. Highly successful Christian women honor this gift by setting aside intentional time to rest and worship. This doesn’t mean just going to church on Sunday—it means dedicating the day to things that bring rest and delight.
For me, Sundays are my favorite day of the week, although they do require intentionality. As a pastor’s wife, I don’t sleep in. I wake up early to pray for my spouse, pray for a move of the Holy Spirit during worship service, and make sure I’m spiritually hungry to receive from God before I go to church. I also make sure my children eat breakfast so that no one leaves home hungry.
After worship service, Sunday afternoons are such a special and sacred time. I love to spend the first part of my afternoon resting and reflecting on Sunday’s worship message. I ask my family to respect my space with God and allow me 30 minutes to rest, play worship music, or enjoy the quiet. It seems like there’s such a gentle peace in my home on Sundays.
In the late afternoon and evening, it’s family time. My children and I enjoy family dinner and watch a family movie or play a game before we pack school bags, lunches, and lay out our clothes for Monday morning. The last part of my evening is reserved for a bit of gratitude to God, then I look over my calendar and tasks to prepare for the week ahead.
How to try it: Make a list of activities that bring you rest and joy. Use your Sabbath day to do these things, and take time to reflect on God’s goodness.
10. They Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
Lastly, successful Christian women understand that perfection isn’t the goal—progress is. They don’t stress over every little thing that didn’t go right. They extend grace to themselves, knowing that their worth comes from God, not from their achievements.
I used to stress about getting everything perfect—making sure my house was spotless before Monday, getting all the laundry done, and answering every single email. But then I realized that God doesn’t love me more because my laundry is done. He loves me because I’m His. Extending grace to myself on the weekends has been freeing, and it’s made my weekends more enjoyable.
How to try it: Let go of one “should-do” item this weekend and replace it with something that brings rest or joy. Remember, you are not defined by your productivity—you are defined by God’s love for you.
Final Thoughts
Successful weekends are not about cramming in as much productivity as possible—they’re about balance, rest, and connection. When we approach our weekends with intention, we can truly nurture our souls and set ourselves up for a successful, faith-filled week ahead.
So, I challenge you: try one or two of these habits this weekend. Be intentional. Find joy. Rest in God’s presence. And let your weekend be a time that fills you up so you can give your best to those around you.
You’ve got this, beautiful—and God’s got you. Let’s make our weekends count!
